What is a Coaching Consult (Usually a Discovery Call or Free Coaching Consult)

So You Scheduled a Free Coaching Consult — Now What?

People often ask me: "What exactly happens during a coaching consult?" or "Is it like a sample session?" or even "Am I committing to something by scheduling this?"

Whether you're considering your first-ever coaching experience or simply gathering information before making a decision, I want to walk you through what to expect — and what not to — during a Momentum Coaching consult.

Think of this as your friendly, informative guide. No pressure. Just real answers.

A Coaching Consult Is a Professional Compatibility Call

At its heart, a consult is a 15-minute call designed to answer a mutual question: Are we a good fit to work together?

That’s it. Not more, not less. No pressure. No pitches. No trying to "sell" you on something you don’t want or need.

Think of it like a focused compatibility check:

  • Do our communication styles click?

  • Are your goals aligned with what I actually offer?

  • Is coaching even the right modality for you—or is something else a better fit?

It’s not a test you need to pass. It’s a mutual, supportive exploration.

What It’s Not: A Free Coaching Session

This is important to say gently, but clearly:

A coaching consult is not a place to dive deep into your history, solve a long-standing problem, or map out a step-by-step plan for your life.

Why not? Because coaching only works when there’s:

  • Time to build rapport

  • Clarity about your goals and pacing

  • Consent around what we’re focusing on and why

Trying to squeeze that into 15 minutes does both of us a disservice.

Instead, coaching sessions (after the consult) are:

  • Structured and personalized

  • Designed around your pace and readiness

  • Anchored in clear goals, expectations, and mutual trust

What Happens During a Coaching Consult?

During your call, you can expect:

  • A few clarifying questions about what you’re navigating or hoping to shift

  • Information about how I work, what coaching might look like, and your options

  • Space to ask questions—about logistics, boundaries, or approach

And then? You get to decide. If it feels aligned, we move forward. If it doesn’t, you’re still welcome to explore the free resources or join the waitlist for future opportunities.

Final Thought: You’re Not Behind

If you’re still unsure, that’s okay. A consult is a gentle invitation, not a doorway you’re being pushed through.

We don’t rush transformation here. And we definitely don’t treat confusion like failure.

So whether you book, explore, or circle back later—you’re still on your path. Let’s just make sure it’s one that feels aligned, clear, and supportive.
